'Tis the season when homes are looking their best, dressed up with greenery and candlelight, and echoing with the good cheer of family and friends. Holiday finery. I'm so pleased to have some beautiful new pieces in the shop that I think are also truly fine — each would be perfect to spruce of your home for Holidays and long after.
This is a a superb and versatile piece. As you know, I never turn down the chance to offer a beautiful chest of drawers. A piece like this is an affordable investment that works in virtually any room in the house.
Here's an example of a similar block-front style chest on display at an historic Connecticut home. But I love the idea of mixing classic antique furniture in modern settings as well.
Here's yet another fine and versatile piece. Top this small chest with a tray and add all the necessities for a drinks party. Cocktail napkins and accoutrements can be stashed in the drawers. It would also make a great bedside table. I'd love to see it as a shapely counterpoint to a simple painted Shaker-style poster bed.
But if you are feeling like an antiques purist, here's an example of a similar chest in an entry hall in the foreground above. This is the same historic home as shown with the block-front 4-drawer chest above.
As if that weren't enough to win your favour, check out this screen capture from S1 ep2 of Downton Abbey. A very similar piece plays a supporting role during this pivotal scene of Matthew and Mary's first meeting. In fact, this room in Crawley House is one of my favourites of the whole series.
