If you ask me, it never went away, but mark my words, brown furniture is making a comeback. And it seems antiques expert Judith Miller and UK designer Ilse Crawford agree. That’s Ilse Crawford’s clever installation at the new Anya Hindmarch store in New York above.
“Brown furniture” is a catchall term used in the design and antiques biz to refer to almost any piece of brown wood furniture. Today, the very best designers are Masters of the Mix and a few key pieces of brown furniture — Georgian, Empire, Regency or Sheraton are especially desirable — are essential parts of the formula.
And in the words of Anya Hindwarch “the old stuff is beautifully made and shockingly well priced” I couldn’t agree more.
